For
over 30 years, the National Wildlife Federation (NWF),
the largest conservation organization in the country,
has sponsored the Backyard
Wildlife Habitat program which allows individuals
to certify their yards as places where wildlife can
find food, water, cover and places to raise their young.
Certifying your yard is a terrific family project and
educational opportunity!
Aligned
with the Backyard Wildlife Habitat program is the Community
Wildlife Habitat program (CWH), which expands
on the individual homeowners' certified habitats by
including multiple habitat locations throughout a given
community.
Sweetwater
in the Foothills is Arizona's FIRST
certified
Community Wildlife Habitat!
We
are the 22nd community in the United States to achieve
this distinction.
As we move forward as Arizona's first Community Wildlife
Habitat, we'll be reaching out to the broader Tucson
community by promoting the Backyard Wildlife Habitat
project at events around the city. Our goal is to inspire
more people to be habitat aware and proactive in preserving
our unique environment for all the generations to come.
Your
CWH Team will be taking additional training with NWF,
and we hope to be able to host some habitat workshops
in our own community this fall.
In 2008, we provided guidance
and help to Robins Elementary School with their Schoolyard
Habitat project. Click
